Palm
springs is a tourist destination
in its own right.
Since
the early 1900's, movie stars and wealthy business people have flocked
to Palm Springs because of its temperate climate. Indian lore abounds
in the Palm Springs area and visitors are attracted to the Indian
Canyons and other habitat of the Native American. Jeep tours take
visitors to these Indian canyons and the picturesque range of mountains
that surround Palm Springs.
The number
one tourist attraction is the Palm
Springs aerial tramway which climbs to an elevation
of 8,000 feet for several climate zones. Visitors to that spectacular
mountain top can view the entire Coachella Valley. The temperature
at the top of the tram is generally 30 degrees cooler than the
valley floor.
In
addition to golf and tennis, visitors to the valley enjoy horseback
riding, hot air ballooning, hiking, and visits to fine restaurants.
